PASIR PUTEH: The police have arrested six men from two gangs believed to be involved in two separate car theft incidents reported here.

Pasir Puteh District Police chief DSP Abdu Rozak Muhammad said yesterday the first case involved three men, aged between 32 and 52, who had allegedly stolen a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle at Kampung Abal Tiga Derah on Feb 23.

“They were arrested by a police team from the Pasir Puteh police headquarters during a raid at a house in Kampung Tualang Danan at 11.30am the same day,” he told reporters at the headquarters here yesterday.

Abdu Rozak said during the inspection, the police recovered the 4WD vehicle which was believed to be in the process of being sold to another party by replacing the original number plate to dupe authorities.

Besides that, he said a 24cm-long knife was also recovered from one of the suspects during an inspection.

All the three suspects were released yesterday, and the case was being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft of a motor vehicle, he said.

In another incident, Abdu Rozak said his team arrested three men, aged between 17 and 20, after a failed attempt to steal a car in front of a coffee shop in Jalan Bypass Kampung Alor Pasir at 3am yesterday.

He said the incident was realised by the vehicle owner who was having a drink at the coffee shop after the suspects failed to start the vehicle’s engine.

“All the three suspects were caught with the help of people nearby before they were handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

Abdu Rozak did not rule out the possibility that all six suspects posessed previous criminal records relating to vehicle theft, robbery and drug addiction. — Bernama
