Activities cancelled to respect dead PBS Youth members

One of the victims, Hesbi Abdullah @ Andrew Wong, was buried at the Kota Klias Muslim cemetery in Beaufort late yesterday afternoon.

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) expressed sadness over the sudden demise of three youth exco members, including its deputy chief, in the Saturday night accident in Keningau.

Its secretary general, Datuk Johnny Mositun, said several activities in conjunction with the party’s anniversary this year had been cancelled, namely a bowling competition on March 3 and a football match between PBS Youth and the PBS supreme council member teams on March 4.

“This is as a mark of respect for them,” he said here Sunday, adding that the anniversary dinner programme on March 5 would proceed albeit with only light programmes.

Wong Wan Siang, 43, Peter Tan Che Vui @ Peter Chin, 44, and Dolsin bin Merindang, 42, were killed when their vehicle crashed into side of a bridge and plunged 10 metres down to the riverbank at Kampung Sinagang, Jalan Tenom-Keningau on Saturday.

Chin was PBS deputy Youth chief cum Luyang division vice chairman, Dolsin was PBS Youth secretary while Wong was a member of Youth exco.

PBS president Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan paid his last respect to Chin here on Sunday while deputy president Datuk Dr Maximus Ongkili would be representing the party in Pitas today to pay last respect to Dolsin.

Wong was buried in Beaufort on Sunday.

Pairin expressed his deepest condolences on the passing of the three Youth exco members, saying their untimely death was a loss not only to the party, but also the State and country.

He said the three Youth exco members had been loyal to the party and had greatly contributed to the struggle of PBS, as well as for Sabah and Malaysia.

Pairin said the trio had attended a Youth forum organized by the party in Tenom before their demise.

Pairin, who is also the Deputy Chief Minister, hoped the families of the three Youth exco members would stay strong during this difficult time.

Mositun said the death of the three party youth leaders was most unfortunate and a big loss to the party and Sabah.

“The party expresses gratitude to Youth chief Datuk Jake Nointin and other youth leaders for making the necessary arrangements at the Keningau District Hospital for the deceased members,” he said.

“I wish to extend my condolences to the families as well as to the PBS Youth and party leadership. May they rest in peace,” he said.
