MELAKA: The Melaka Criminal Investigation Department (CID) busted 21 crime syndicates involving vehicle
theft, robbery and burglary, and arrested 29 syndicate members last year.

Melaka CID chief ACP Raja Shahrom Raja Abdullah said police were also monitoring syndicates’ modus operandi in order to prevent crime and arresting the criminals involved, besides focusing on efforts to combat drug abuse, prostitution, gambling, fighting and gangterism cases.

“Melaka CID arrested 2,726 people last year, including 269 foreigners for various criminal offences with information from public and police intelligence,” he told Bernama, here, yesterday.

He said the cooperation between CID and the Department of Crime Prevention and Community Safety that was established last year, managed to reduce the crime rate in Melaka to over 12 per cent last year.

He said inspections were also being carried out from time to time at workshops and scrap material yards to ensure that the activities of buying and selling of stolen goods could be tracked. — Bernama
