Haikal wins bout in opponent’s own backyard

KUCHING: Muhd Haikal Zaidie the state’s 13 -year-old muaythai rising star lived up to the expectation of Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMS) by wining his bout against Johor’s Danial Tugau in the Johor State Invitational Muaythai Tournament last Saturday.

The tournament Jis held at the Johor Bahru Youth and Sports Complex, Jalan Ayer Molek.

According to a PMS secretary Hartika Abu Kassim who contacted The Borneo Post yesterday, Haikal won the keenly contested fight on points.

“It was a close fight but thankfully the win goes to Haikal. The victory meant a lot to him (Haikal) too,” he said.

He urged Haikal to work even harder in the future as PMS would provide him the platform to advance his career in the sport.

“At his age, he is definitely one of the best fighters in Sarawak. We hope that he has what it takes to become a top fighter in the country one day,” he added.

Meanwhile Haikal’s club, the Kenyalang Muaythai Club thanked PMS president Jumaat Ibrahim and the Sarawak Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) for supporting Haikal.

“The result was a great achievement for the youngster who is our club member. We will carry on supporting his career and ambition as a muaythai fighter,” said one of the club’s official.
