KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s strong immigration enforcement on the no-entry to political extremists and religious bigots into the state is true testimony that he wants Sarawak to continue being peaceful and politically stable.

“Adenan also wants Sarawak to be one of the top harmonious states within Malaysia, said Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu in a press statement to pay tribute to Adenan’s first aniversary as chief minister yesterday.

“I have strong confidence that YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan will be able to steer Sarawak and her multi-religious and multi-racial people to continue enjoying peace, stability, racial harmony and achieve success and prosperity as envisioned by the (policy of) Politics of Development and Vision 2020,” said Jabu who is also Modernisation of Agriculture Minister and Rural Development Minister.

Adenan’s liberal policy and ready acceptance for inter-religious as inter-cultural respect and on freedom of worship, especially his unequivocal stand on the usage of the word ‘Allah’ in the Bible consolidated very strong support amongst the Christians throughout the state, Jabu stressed.

On human capital development, Jabu said Adenan is fully committed to the pursuit.

“Through Yayasan Sarawak of which he (Adenan) is the chairman, Sarawak is fully committed to producing quality manpower for the future and to prepare for rapid expansion of hi-tech industries and manufacturing which require talented and specially trained manpower resources for Sarawak leveraging, on cheap energy from hydropower through SCORE (Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy) to become competitive as a global player,” he said.

Jabu pointed out that Adenan shares the vision and mission of head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud in developing facilities for quality tertiary education by fostering worldwide networking with reputable universities, to ensure Sarawak produces compatibly qualified brains of intellect for the
future.

“Ever since becoming chief minister, he (Adenan) has successfully carried out excellent continuation of the very caring policy of ‘Politics of
Development’s main thrust of political stability, peace, racial harmony, progress and prosperity for Sarawak which was spearheaded by our former chief minister Taib, who is now the Yang di-Pertua Negeri,” Jabu said.

“He (Adenan) is very well respected for his repeated public statements on his firm commitment and policy to accord priority to develop the rural areas, which are relatively more backwards in order to catch up with the urban
areas.

“He is well respected for being easily approachable and his love for music and songs garner great support from our youths and his contemporaries,” he added

Jabu said he also fully acknowledged the need to help Chinese schools.

Adenan granted an initial grant of RM3 million to assist Chinese schools in the state – a kind gesture which has been greatly appreciated by the Chinese community.

“In the political arena, he is humane and considerate, even extending help and generosity to assist the family members of political adversaries when they genuinely needed help for medical expenses,” said Jabu, referring to the case of former state DAP chairman, the late Wong Ho Leng who passed away after fighting a brain tumour.
