Mawan: All BN components must unite to win state polls

PAKAN: All components under Barisan Nasional (BN), including those that are pro-BN, must work together to ensure another success for the ruling coalition in the next state election.

Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan said BN members and supporters across all board must pursue a common course in maintaining and strengthening the country’s political stability.

“It is through such stability that enables the government to concentrate on its efforts to achieve the people’s aspiration, as well as the nation’s vision 2020,” said the Saratok MP and Pakan assemblyman after officiating at a community development programne organised by Meradong Julau District Council at Rumah Mok Gelut in Lasi, Julau near here on Saturday.

At the function, Mawan – who is Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) president – also received 620 applications to join the party from headmen representing 20 longhouses in Balut, Merurun and Lasi areas.

The minister was overwhelmed by the response, stressing that Teras had always been with BN since its inception.

“We have five elected representatives – among whom are also assistant ministers in the state cabinet.

“We are ever willing to contribute towards unity in facing the next election.”

At the function, Mawan also pledged RM20,000 for Rumah Mok Gelut’s village security and development committee (JKKK).

The one-day event hosted more than 400 people, including 50 longhouse headmen from around the area. It was also attended by Julau District officer Mohd Said Atoi, Pakan District officer Alex Liau, Meradong Julau
District Council secretary Adrian Luang, Julau District police chief DSP Bidol Noyeng and Special Affairs Department liaison officer for Julau, Sylvester Embuas.
