Eight held for cock-fighting

LAHAD DATU: Eight persons, including two woman, were arrested by police for alleged involvement in illegal cock fighting.

District police chief ACP Hamzah Ahmad said the suspects were caught at an oil palm plantation in Mile 8, Jalan Segama here on Sunday.

“In the 2.20pm arrest, police confiscated eight roosters and six motorcycles that were left behind by the players,” he said, adding the police also found a dead rooster.

Hamzah said the suspects were taken to the Lahad Datu police station and the case would be investigated under Section 3(1) of the Cruelty Against Animal (Cockfighting) Act.

He reminded the public not to be involved in any illegal activity involving cruelty to animals.
