TUARAN: The multi-racial and multi-religious society of Sabah in general and Tuaran in particular live in peace and harmony, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hj Hajiji Hj Noor.

“Sabah is therefore a good example of 1Malaysia in action and this fact was acknowleged by none other than the founder of the 1Malaysia concept, the Prime Minister himself,” he added.

Hajiji who is Sulaman assemblyman, stated this when officiating the Tuaran District Chinese New Year celebration at Dewan Seri Sulaman here on Sunday night.

However, he pointed out that there might be quarters who are jealous of this success and would do anything to sabotage it by spreading lies and twisting facts through the social media.

“The people should therefore be vigilant against this group and not fall into the trap,” he added.

The celebration was jointly organised by eight Tuaran Chinese organisations who take turns to be the main organiser annually, a tradition started by the late Datuk Liew Kee Sin of the Hakka Association in 1977.

This year’s host is the Yu Huang Taoist Temple with Chung Yee Fung as the organising chairman. At the end of the celebration, temple chairman Thomas Chong handed over the organising banner to next year’s host, Datuk Agnes Shim of the Tuaran District Chinese Women Association.

The venue for the celebration is also alternated between Tuaran’s Dewan Seri Sulaman and Tamparuli’s Dewan Tun Hamdan.

At the function, Tuaran MCA chief Chua Sheng Kian presented a donation to five Chinese primary schools in the district.

Present were Tuaran member of parliament Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau, Tamparuli PPM Datuk Jahid Jahim, and Tuaran OCPD DSP Abdul Fuad Malek.
