KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said the state government has no plans to introduce a dress code targeting tourists as the existing regulations are adequate.

He said the state government supported action taken by Terengganu Islamic and Malay Customs Council (Maidam) against Muslims for indecent dressing in public areas recently.

“Maidam’s action was made under Section 34 and Section 35 of Terengganu Syariah Criminal Enactment 2001. It was passed by the state assembly in 2001 during PAS rule.

“It is something good and must be implemented. We want to ensure that Terengganu’s rapid development is in line with the people’s morality and the  moniker Terengganu Darul Iman (Terengganu Land of the Faithful),” he told reporters after presenting laptops to 14 oustanding students in the STPM examination at SMA Sultan Zainal Abidin, here.

Ahmad Razif urged all parties to stop spreading false information on the enforcement of the enactment, including some people were issued with summonses.

“For a start, there were given warnings and counselling. Only repeat offenders will be issued with summonses.” — Bernama
