Youth development main focus of Kuching league

KUCHING: Twelve teams will battle it out in the Kuching League (K-League) organised by the Kuching Division Football Association (KDFA) which will kick off early next month.

Abdul Rahman, the association’s deputy president and 2015 K-League organising chairman said at a press conference yesterday although the date of the kick off had yet to be finalised, the closing date for registration is on Mar 20.

“Initially there were 20 teams interested in competing at the tournament but we had to trim the number of teams to 12 for administrative purposes. We hope the 12 teams will showcase the best football that Kuching has to offer.”

He said youth development would be the main focus of the tournament this year.

To achieve that every team must field at least two U-19 players every match and must at least register three U-19 players Fazruddin added .

The league champion will win RM5,000 while first and second runners up will be given RM3,000 and RM2,000 cash prize respectively.

“RM1,000 will be given to the best player and the winning team get other prizes as well,” said Fazruddin.

All registration forms for the tournament can be obtained from the PBB P194 Petra Jaya Service Centre starting from tomorrow (Mar 4).

Registration fee for the tournament is RM4,000.
