PAKAN: Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA) has been directed to return to the landowners those native customary rights (NCR) lands that it had failed to develop after signing agreements with them many years ago.

Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said the landowners’ demands to get their lands back were justified as LCDA had left those lands idle.

The chief minister said this during a Leader-Meet-the People session here yesterday. Julau MP Datuk Joseph Salang had earlier highlighted the landowners’ grouses on this matter at the gathering.

Adenan said he would get LCDA to release the affected lands to the respective owners and then get the Land and Survey Department to carry out a perimeter survey of the affected lands.

“Once the matter is settled, I hope the landowners will develop their lands for commercial farming.”

Salang, among other things, said the lands were tied up for a long time following agreements with LCDA.

He added that the landowners told him they wanted their lands back for the planting of crops like palm oil, rubber and pepper on a commercial scale.

At the gathering, Adenan declared open the Pakan District Office building and presented BR1M vouchers to several recipients.

Social Development Minister Tan Sri William Mawan, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Sarikei Resident Dahim Nadot and District Officer Alex Liau were present.
