BELURAN: Four persons were killed and two were seriously injured when a Perodua Myvi collided with a Toyota Hilux at Km 59 Beluran-Telupid Road around 2.50pm yesterday.

The dead were the Myvi passengers – Ridzuan Basnu, 30, his wife Noorlilah Masli, 25, their five-day-old baby girl and a 50-year-old woman, Gaya Gudang.

The couple’s four-year-old son, Ahmad Kidam Rizuan and 16-year-passenger Mohamad Hazawan Masli, were in critical condition at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan.

The driver and a 25-year-old woman passenger of the Hilux escaped unhurt.

Beluran district police chief Superintendent Sivanathan Velautham said early investigation revealed that the Hilux driver had lost control of the wheel and entered the lane of the Myvi which was on its way from Beluran to Telupid.

The Myvi skidded and overturned at the side of the road after the collision.

Ridzuan, Noorlilah and Gaya died at the scene from serious head injuries. The baby girl succumbed to injuries at the Duches of Kent Hospital.

Further investigation showed that it was raining when the accident took place which may have caused the road to be slippery.

The couple who died in the accident were believed to be the driver and front passenger of the MyVi.

Sivanathan said the 30-year-old driver of the Toyota Hilux went to the Beluran police station immediately to lodge a report after the accident. The case would be investigated under Section 41 (1) of Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving and causing death, which carries imprisonment of two to ten years and a fine of 5,000 to 20,000.
