MELBOURNE: Malaysian-born Guy Sebastian will represent Australia in the 60th Eurovision song contest in May in Vienna.

The announcement was made at the Sydney Opera House Thursday morning.

Sebastian, who was born in Klang, Selangor, described it as a “dream opportunity”.

While he has yet to choose a song, Sebastian said he wanted it to be “epic”.

“Either super fun or a big ballad that showcases my voice,” he told reporters.

Sebastian’s song will be announced before March 16. The Eurovision contest is on May 23.

The former Australian Idol winner has previous experience of global song contests, having finished seventh at the 2003 World Idol final where he was praised by Simon Cowell as one of the best voices at the event.

He has also performed for Pope Benedict XVI, Queen Elizabeth II and Oprah Winfrey.

Although Sebastian will be the first Australian representative at the Eurovision contest, Australian talent Jessica Mauboy gave a non-competitive performance at the 2014 contest which was watched by 195 million people worldwide.-Bernama
