BELURAN: A woman, together with her husband and five-day-old baby girl, are among four victims who were killed in a road accident in Kilometer 59, Jalan Beluran-Telupid, today.

The incident occurred at 2.15 pm when the their Perodua Myvi car collided with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicle.

Beluran Police chief Supt Sivanathan Velautham said the driver of the Ridzuan Basnu, 30, his wife, Noorlilah Masli, 25, and Gaya Gudang, 50 (Ridzuan’s mother), died at the scene, while the baby girl died while receiving treatment at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan at 8 pm.

Two other passengers in the car sustained severe injuries, namely the couple’s four-year-old son Ahmad Kidam and Noorlilah’s younger brother, Mohamad Hazawan Masli.

They were heading back to their home in Kampung Lidong after Noorlilah delivered her baby girl in Beluran Hospital five days ago, Sivanathan told Bernama.

Initial investigations at the scene found that the driver of the 4WD vehicle from Telupid lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with the car, he said.

Sivanathan said both vehicles were badly damaged in the accident and the car overturned after having veered over the left side of the road.

The 30-year-old male driver of the 4WD vehicle, and a 25-year-old woman passenger, however, only sustained minor injuries.

Sivanathan said the driver of the 4WD vehicle was detained for further investigation under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. – BERNAMA
