Sibu schools meet opens with three new records

SIBU: Three records were re-written on the first day of the Sibu Division Inter-school Athletics Championship held at Tun Zaidi Stadium yesterday.

SMK St Elizabeth’s Betty Hoong King Ching heaved the Girl’s A shot putt to a new distance of 11.70m to eclipse her own record of 10.52m set last year.

In the Girl’s B 200m hurdles, SMK Kanowit’s Josephine Dansun clocked 31.84sec to break the existing record of 33.18sec set by Rebecca Bedimpa last year.

The final record of the day was contributed by SMK Sibu Jaya’s Christina Radin in the Girl’s C 200m hurdles. She registered 33.07sec to improve the previous mark of 33.73sec created by Lismalizher Binit last year.

A total of 1,043 athletes are taking part in the three-day meet.

The 84-strong SMK Sedaya contingent boasts the most number of athletes.
