The burned house that claimed the life of an elderly man.
LAHAD DATU: A elderly man was burned to death after his house at Felda Sahabat 4, Blok 4, Cenderawasih was destroyed in a fire on yesterday.
The victim, identified as Bahrum bin Kama, 63, was found in one of the rooms inside the house. He is believed to been unable to escape from the burning house and as a result was burned to death.
District Fire and Rescue Department chief, Mohd Apandi Mahmood, said his department received an alert at 1.30 pm and immediately rushed a fire engine and seven firefighters to the scene. The volunteer firefighters team from Felda Sahabat was also alerted.
“The Felda Sahabat volunteer firefighters team was able to control the blaze after arriving at the scene at 2.36 pm, while the Fire and Rescue Department team only arrived at 3.15 pm in view of the distance from Laha Datu,” he said when contacted.
He added that investigation is still ongoing to investigate the cause of fire and the estimated loss.
