Grand Sibu send-off for Datuk Hii Yii Peng

SIBU: The Masland Methodist Church in Island Road here where a funeral service for Datuk Hii Yii Peng was held yesterday was jam-packed by family members, relatives, friends and business associates.

Among the dignitaries were Local Government and Community Development Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, his wife Datin Sri Pauline Leong, Sibu Municipal Council chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King, United People’s Party (UPP) Pelawan branch chairperson Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau, Temenggong Vincent Lau and Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Hu Yu Siong.

Gabriel Hii, a friend of Yii Peng for over 30 years, mentioned in the eulogy at the service that the late Hii loved to make friends, and had been very helpful to others.

“He never turned down requests for help. He found happiness in seeing others happy,” he said, adding that Yii Peng always stayed cheerful even in times of adversities.

Yii Peng’s son, King Chiong, recalled and related the final hour of his father at Mount Elizabeth’s Specialist Hospital Centre, Singapore on Tuesday.

“Family members were by his side as he breathed his last,” he said.

King Chiong thanked everyone for the support given to his father and his family during the trying time.

“Thank you to those who never ceased to pray for my father and the family,” he said.

Yii Peng passed away at the age of 86, leaving behind wife Datin Loh Leh Huong, a son, two daughters, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law and eight grandchildren to mourn his loss. He was buried at Hii Association Cemetery in Bukit Aup, Teku Road.
