Local fined for possessing homemade gun

SANDAKAN: A 23 year old local man was fined RM3,000, in default two months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here after he was found in possession of a homemade marble air-gun.

Azman Awang @ Nonong pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun after he was charged under Section 8 (a) Firearms Act 1960, which is punishable with a jail term of not less than seven years or a fine not exceeding RM10,000 or both upon conviction.

The accused was arrested after he was found in possession of a homemade marble air-gun (senapang guli) at an estate at around 11.35 am on February 26 this year. Police also confiscated 12 marbles used as ammunition for the home made gun inside a plastic bag.

Based on investigation, it was found that the accused had used the air-gun to hunt for squirrels at the estate.
