Man jailed 30 months for housebreaking, theft

KOTA KINABALU: A man will spend the next 30 months in prison for stealing several items worth RM10,000.

Hamid Bohanding, 25, pleaded guilty before magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to committing the offence at 4am on January 4, this year.

The court was told that Hamid had broken into a house at Shangrila Heights, in Tanjung Aru owned by U Wai Man, 59, and stole a Lenovo laptop, two Playstation4 consoles and jewellery.

The accused was charged under Section 457 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum prison term of 14 years.

The facts of the case stated that during the time of incident, the victim, her family and the two housemaids were sleeping.

One of the maids, Cristina, heard someone opening the window of the house at around 4am. She left her room and noticed that the kitchen light was switched on.

She saw a man (Hamid) walking outside, in the direction of the forest behind the house, holding a black bag which is believed to be a laptop bag belonging to one of the victim’s children.

Cristina woke U Wai up, who in turn, called the police. Based on information, the police arrested Hamid on February 6.

Prosecuting officer Inspector Lim Swee Beng prosecuted.
