MMEA nabs six foreigners suspected of bombing fish

KOTA KINABALU: Two unregistered boats with six foreign crew were detained on suspicion of carrying out fish bombings in the waters off Pulau Sulug on Thursday.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Kota Kinabalu acting enforcement chief, Maritime Commander Anoop Kumar Ranjit Rai said MMEA came to this conclusion after examining a 600 kg catch of numerous species of fish found in the two boats.

“The MMEA Penggalang 21 patrol boat was conducting an operation in the waters off Kota Kinabalu to Usukan when it was tipped off at 3.40pm on Thursday on fish bombing activities in the area,” he said in a statement here, today.

Anoop Kumar said the men detained, aged between 20 to 50, who did not have identification documents, would be referred to the Malaysian Immigration Department.-Bernama
