KOTA BAHARU: Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said there is an organised effort led by a certain group with a political agenda to attack the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

He said the attacks, speculation and rumour spreading now not only had a negative impact on the 1MDB but also affected the sentiments of foreign investors.

“Any attack on the 1MDB represents a form of attack on the country and they must be responsible for each false accusation and slander on the 1MDB,” he told reporters after the programme to show appreciation to Flood Management Workers of the Malaysian Civil Defence Department (JPAM), here yesterday.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Home Minister, said a noted accounting firm, Deloitte, had informed the Cabinet on Wednesday that following the unfounded allegation, they had carried out extra scrutiny on the 1MDB accounts.

“This included bringing in forensic experts to inspect related documents. Deloitte had also said that they were satisfied with the 1MDB accounts and had agreed to verify it,” he said.

On Wednesday, prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak had instructed the Auditor-General to verify the 1MDB accounts independently and the report of the Auditor-General would be handed over for a transparent inspection by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which is completely non-partisan and reflects the Parliamentary composition. — Bernama
