Three drug addicts arrested for break-ins, motorbike theft

KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested three drug addicts for house-breaking and motorcycle theft at Taman Sepanggar in Menggata, here last month.

The suspects, aged 19 and 28, were nabbed separately by police between February 24 and February 27.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the incident happened on February 23 around 1am when the suspects broke into a house and stole several items and a motorcycle.

“According to a police report lodged by the 30-year-old victim, the latter had just returned home from holiday and found his house had been broken into.

“Among the items missing were a Honda motorcycle, three crash helmets, an amplifier, a television, a laptop and other personal belongings with losses estimated at RM7,700.

“Following the incident and continuous investigation, police from the Crime investigation Department (CID) arrested one of the suspects at Taman Bukit Sepanggar followed by the second suspect several hours later at Kampung Lokub on February 24,” he said in a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing here yesterday.

Three days later, police detained the third suspect, a 19-year-old man at Kampung Sepanggar, said Chandra.

According to Chandra, further investigation showed the suspects were also involved in four similar cases, namely at Taman Sepanggar, Taman Seri Maju, University Apartment and an apartment around the area with losses amounting to more than RM11,000.

With the arrest of the suspects, police believe that they have solved five housebreaking cases around Sepanggar area, said Chandra, adding that the suspects would be investigated under Section 457 and 379 A of the Penal code for housebreaking and motor vehicle theft respectively.
