KOTA KINABALU: Police arrested four people, including two secondary students, for breaking into a vehicle at Tun Fuad Stephens Park recently.

City police chief ACP M. Chandra said the suspects, aged 14 and 22, were nabbed on Feb 24 at Kampung Kolam Damai in Luyang, eight days after they allegedly committed the crime.

According to Chandra, the suspects were believed to be involved in breaking into a car that was parked at the Tun Fuad Stephen Park car park on Feb 16 between 5am and 6am.

“According to a police report, the victim, a 35-year-old man, had parked his car at the park’s car park for a morning jog.

“When he returned around 6am, the victim found his car window broken,” he said in a press conference at the city police headquarters in Karamunsing, here yesterday.

Among the items, worth about RM2,400, reported stolen from the car were a cell phone, ATM card, personal documents and RM400 cash.

Acting on a police report and public tip-off, police arrested the suspects at Kampung Kolam Damai around 9pm on Feb 24.

“Two of the suspects are students and police believe they were also involved in four other similar cases around the area between November and late December last year with losses amounting to more than RM18,000,” said Chandra.

He said the suspects had been remanded for investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft.
