MIRI: A 12-year-old girl from Tudan Phase 6 here was taken to Miri Hospital on Thursday due to injuries on her body believed to have been caused by abuse.

When contacted yesterday, Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit confirmed that a report has been lodged on the incident.

“The report was lodged by the Miri Welfare Department the same day after being told by the victim’s school teacher upon seeing her injuries,” said Stanley.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

A preliminary police investigation has revealed that the abuse is believed to have started during the recent Chinese New Year break.

It is believed that the victim’s mother scratched her on the body and face on several occasions during the holiday due to her failure to wash dishes as instructed.

“Police will make an arrest soon to facilitate our investigation,” added Stanley.
