KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Royal Customs Department will upload frequently asked questions and answers pertinent on the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on its website to help industry players better prepare themselves ahead of the tax implementation date of April 1.

Deputy Finance Minister Datuk Chua Tee Yong said the GST guidelines that involved all sectors, as well as, the recent decisions taken would also be made available on the website.

“A lot of clarification was required after meeting non-governmental organisations and associations.

All the clarifications will be uploaded on the website,” he told reporters after officiating the Malaysian Real Estate Convention 2015 here yesterday.

He said issues related to the sale of commercial properties and confusion over the GST threshold would also be explained in detail on the website.

Asked on the status update of the GST, a six per cent tax regime that would replace the current sales and services tax of 12 per cent, he said the government was still engaging with some industries that were seeking further clarification.

On the RM15,000 compound slapped on each company which refused to register for GST by March 1, he said the ministry did not have any statistics yet since the Customs Department only started imposing the penalty five days ago. — Bernama
