MIRI: Come the Chinese New Year, elderly folks at the Home for the Aged became the prime target of the Leos of Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS) for festivities.
On that special day, the Leos visited them at Krokop here and served them good food and packet drinks, and distributed tit-bits and angpow (red packets).
“Our love and affection for them grow fonder and we treat them like our parents. This explains why these elderly folks always become our target for festive treats and gifts,” organising chairlady Kho Jia En told The Borneo Post at a recent gathering on March 2.
The ‘Community Service for Senior Citizens’ was organised by RRSS Leo Club to bring cheer to the residents with food and entertainment during the celebrations.
It was also to expose the younger Leos to the existence of the Home for the Aged, its purpose and functions.
Kho noted the excitement and happiness in the Leos over the opportunity given to demonstrate their love and care for senior citizens.
They also sympathised with some of the residents who lamented their loneliness without relatives and loved ones around on Chinese New Year day.
Leo Club’s chief faculty advisor Diana Yeoh joined in the visit to guide the Leos, who had a great time at the gathering.
Yeoh asserted that spending time in fellowship with the elderly folks was more meaningful than just donating items, taking pictures and a farewell wave.
The home’s person-in-charge, Sister Emily Ubong, who was on hand to receive the Leos thanked them for their warm treatment of the 32 residents.
