KUCHING: A motorcyclist whose elder brother perished in a road accident last year was killed after he crashed into a metal barrier near Siburan Bazaar early yesterday morning.

The deceased was identified as Marconey Tani, 27, of Kampung Seratau at Mile 15 Kuching-Serian Road.

The incident occurred shortly past midnight when Marconey and a male friend were riding their motorcycles home after having a drink in Siburan.

While travelling along Mile 16 Kuching-Serian Road, the friend riding in front said he heard a loud noise and looked into his side mirror to see Marconey had crashed.

He doubled back to help the victim, but he was lying motionless on the road with severe head injuries.

Medical personnel were called and they confirmed that the victim had succumbed to his injuries.

Family members of the deceased arrived at the scene after being informed of the incident but declined to speak to the press.

This was the second death in the family as Marconey’s elder brother was killed after his motorcycle collided with a lorry near SMK Padawan last year.

Traffic police from Padawan were present to investigate the crash and sent the body to Sarawak General Hospital for a postmortem.
