GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has warned DAP assemblymen in the state not to join the #Kita Lawan” rally, to be held at the square near the Sogo shopping complex, Kuala Lumpur today.

He asserted that they had to be present at their respective constituencies for the simultaneous launching of a senior citizens appreciation programme that day.

“We are a responsible government and tomorrow is the launch of the Senior Citizens Appreciation Programme in all the constituencies, so the assemblymen must be present in their respective areas,” he told reporters.

He said this after performing the ground-breaking ceremony for the People’s Housing and Affordable Home Scheme at Jalan SP Chelliah yesterday.

Lim said he will be at his constituency, Air Putih today and would not participate in the rally.

The rally is allegedly organised by PKR Youth to express support for opposition chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who is currently behind bars at the Sungai Buloh Prison in Selangor.

On Feb 10, the Federal Court dismissed Anwar’s appeal and affirmed his five-year sentence and conviction for sodomising his personal assistant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan on June 26, 2008.

On Feb 27, Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Zainol Samah said police had not received any permit application for the rally. — Bernama
