KUCHING: Shell retailers took the initiative to raise awareness on safety at petrol stations through a community engagement programme recently.

A group of thirty retailers led by Shell territory manager Alex Pega Mahda engaged the community at food courts and the commercial area surrounding Shell Jalan Penrissen Mile 4 ½ to educate them on the importance of safety at petrol stations.

According to a press release yesterday, an Emergency Contact Card (ECC) was distributed together with safety bags to participants during the programme.

Information displayed on the ECC includes the cardholder’s full name, phone contact, blood type, allergies and who to contact in the event of emergency.

During the programme, retailers reminded the community to comply with warning signs displayed at petrol stations during refueling by not smoking, not straddling their motorcycles, not using their mobile phones, not using unapproved containers to store fuel and to always turn their engines off.

At the launch held at Shell Jalan Penrissen Mile 4 ½ here, station site staff also performed an emergency response drill which included fire-fighting, administering first aid and spillage countermeasures to ensure site staff were always ready and responsive in case of any unforeseen accidents.
