KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Youth chief Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad was arrested yesterday to facilitate investigations over the “#KitaLawan” rally held in the city centre Saturday afternoon.

Dang Wangi OCPD, ACP Zainol Samah said Nik Nazmi was arrested after giving a statement at Dang Wangi police station at 10am.

“He was detained under Section 143 of the Penal Code for further investigations over the rally,” he said when contacted by Bernama here yesterday.

On Saturday afternoon, supporters of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim gathered around the capital in several areas, namely Sentral Market, Masjid Jamek and the PAS headquarters and marched to converge at the Sogo shopping complex.

The rally was held to show support for Anwar, who is undergoing a prison sentence for a sodomy offence.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) has denied claims that an ATM owned vehicle was used to transport participants of the #KitaLawan rally in the capital Saturday afternoon.

ATM in a media statement yesterday said ATM was not in any way involved in the purported activity which had spread on social media including Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp.

“The vehicle has been identified to belong to a private company which provides school transport service for children of ATM staff, from the ATM quarters to schools around Kuala Lumpur on school days only,” it said.

Subsequently, ATM contacted the company involved to obtain clarification on the matter and it confirmed that the vehicle was hired by members of the public and was not under the control of ATM.

Meanwhile, a Subang Jaya Municipal Council personnel was detained at Masjid Jamek for trying to cause provocation at the #KitaLawan rally at 7pm on Saturday.

Dang Wangi OCPD, ACP Zainol Samah in a statement said the 29-year-old man was being investigated under Section 143 of the Penal Code.

Zainol when contacted by Bernama, declined to comment further on the matter. — Bernama
