Firemen trying to put out the fire which gutted Mikai’s double-storey wooden house.
KAPIT: An elderly couple has been left homeless when fire completely destroyed their double-storey wooden house at Jalan Bukit Goram late Sunday afternoon.
The fire was believed to have started at the kitchen when the house owner, Mikai Saman, went to his farm nearby without putting out the fire after cooking.
When Mikai and his wife saw their house on fire, they immediately alerted passers-by to call the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba).
But when six firemen reached the scene, the house was already completely engulfed in flames.
All that the firemen could do was to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby houses.
The couple is now putting up with a relative living nearby, and losses are estimated at between RM70,000 and RM80,000.
This is the first fire reported in Kapit this year.
