KOTA KINABALU: The teaching of the Islamic State (IS) is far from the true teaching of Islam, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) vice chancellor, Professor Datuk Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah, said yesterday.
He said that IS claims that they are fighting for Islam.
“Yet slaughtering people is far from Islam. The nature of the Prophet is not like that,” he said when presenting his working paper on the role of the National Education Policy in the context of Sabah at the 2015 Nation
Building Seminar held at the Recital Hall at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) near here.
He also said that the confrontational nature of some Malaysians today had no community trait and discouraged unity in a multi-racial society like Malaysia.
“And in Sabah we have 64 racial groups. So imagine if we have so many people like that in Malaysia. What will happen?”
He added that the National Education Policy wants to create useful citizens, who are noble and possessed high integrity.
“We don’t want to create individuals who cannot be trusted but have beautiful credentials on paper…if the country is not stable, are we ready to become refugees in other countries ?”
