SIBU: Twenty-eight teams will be vying for top honours in the Sibu Open 7-a-side LSC Cup Football Championship which kicks off at 3pm today at the Sibu Prison Field.
Sibu Football Association secretary Abdul Hajis Abdullah said all the teams were locally based, though defending champion KDJ was not participating this time around.
He described the response as encouraging and said it augured well for the promotion of the sport.
Hajis said the seven-a-side competition was traditionally the curtain-raiser for the Sibu Division League Championship.
This year’s league competition begins on March 28.
“The seven-a-side is more about a platform for the players to warm up for the Sibu League,” he reiterated.
Meanwhile, the managers’ meeting for the Sibu Division League Championship is at 2pm today at Paramount Hotel.
