KUCHING: Cor Amoris, a club set up by students of St Joseph’s Private School here, will hold a charity carwash on March 21 and 22.

According to club president Germaine Cassandra George, all proceeds from the ‘Carwash Fundraiser for Charity’ will go to Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) for its resource and education centre.

“We are calling on the generosity of individuals, bodies and companies to come and support this mission,” the 14-year-old told The Borneo Post recently.

The activity will run from 8am to 6m on both days at the school compound. The carwash fee for each car will be RM15, inclusive of vacuuming.

“There will also be refreshments for the customers,” Germaine said.

Cor Amoris was set up in January this year, with the aim of engaging students for a range of community works and social programmes. Its previous activities included a bake sale during Chinese New Year, as well as a Valentine’s Day charity photo-shoot at The Spring Shopping Mall last month.

“From these activities, we managed to raise RM4,850 which was donated to the SCCS (Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society),” Germaine said.

On upcoming programmes, she said Cor Amoris planned to visit Kuching Cheshire Home next month and help the residents there for the spring cleaning.

“In addition, we will also set up stalls selling various items during Perkata and The Salvation Army’s Open Day events in May and August, respectively.

“At the end of this year, we plan to travel to a village near Chiang Mai, close to the Thailand-Myanmar border, where there is a refugee camp. We plan to teach the local children there simple English, as well as help the people clear land for farming and help doctors and dentists from Singapore who are also there.

“We hope to gain more exposure through these activities. As such, we are also calling for the generosity of individuals, as well as governmental and non-governmental bodies to help us with our cause,” Germaine said.
