MIRI: Precious agarwood weighing 7kg and believed to be worth over RM8,000 was reported stolen from  a rented house in Taman Tunku here Friday night.

In the 9pm incident  two occupants of the premises were bound with duct tapes by three men – two of whom were armed with machetes.

According to a police report lodged by one of the victims that same night, it took the robbers less than 10 minutes to ransack the house and fled with the agarwood as well as some valuable items.

“A friend of mine told me that he had a potential buyer for the agarwood and we were supposed to meet around 10pm.

“However, it was cancelled as negotiation on the price was off.

“Several minutes after that, I heard a knock on my door and as I went outside, there was this friend of mine standing outside the gate. As I approached him, two armed men suddenly appeared and grabbed me, putting their machetes over my neck,” the victim told Central police here.

He was later taken into the house by force.

“My friend inside the house was stunned to see the strangers with machetes over my neck.

“Both of us were tied up with duct tapes and then left at the living room while the three turned the house upside down.

“Once they got the agarwood, along with some other valuables, they left,” he said, adding that the three robbers were using a four-wheel drive vehicle.

The victim, however, managed to free himself several minutes later and went to a neighbour’s house to call the police.

Miri police chief ACP Gan Tian Kee, when contacted yesterday, said that he had yet to receive full report on the incident.
