KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA has achieved significant progress in 11 focused areas of the party’s transformation process, president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai said.

He said the areas were the consolidation of membership list, party election reforms, candidate selection mechanism, setting up permanent election war room, study on and reorganising of party historical events, cadre training reforms and election mechanism training.

Progress was also made in the areas of opinion poll, approaching youngsters, instilling volunteerism into party duties, publicity reform, cyber publicity and repositioning of MCA in Barisan Nasional and the government, he added.

He said a key performance index (KPI) was also set up for various task force units in order to ensure that deadlines were met and that any delay at any individual unit would not adversely affect the party’s transformation process as a whole.

“With party transformation and revitalisation in full swing, MCA is now on the road to recovery. I believe that MCA’s darkest days are over, and a new dawn is rising,” he said at the party’s 66th anniversary celeberation themed “Realise Moderation, Build on Pragmatism” at Wisma MCA here, today.

Liow said the party was also re-approaching the community through an economic self-resilience campaign to ensure the success and growth of MCA.

He said MCA would strive to help small and medium enterprise owners to be better, including to help them to venture overseas.

“I have instructed the establishment of a Malaysia-China Foreign Trade Promotion Committee to be headed by Deputy President Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong, to endeavour to consolidate, via political help, and gather together the SMEs to capitalise on the strength of regional heavyweight government-linked companies, among others, Petronas and Felda Global Venture to venture into the huge market in China,” he said.

He added that MCA was also pushing for the transformation of New Villages due to the aging population and decline in number of residents.

On another matter, Liow also reaffirmed the party’s stand in supporting moderation, adding that it would not tolerate religious extremism.

“MCA always draws the line against extremism. MCA will continue to undertake our role in mainstream politics, to enable the rakyat to obtain more equitable evaluation,” he said. — Bernama
