32 teams for Pan Borneo takraw tournament

LAWAS: Organisers are expecting 32 teams to contest the inaugural Pan Borneo Takraw Championship to be held in Lawas from March 19-22.

Teams from Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan and Brunei will vie for the Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan Challenge Trophy and RM 5,000 as prize money.

Organising chairman and PBB Youth central member Abu Bahrin bin Reduan said the tournament will be the climax of a series of activities hosted by Bukit Sari Youth Armada..

He said this at a press conference on Sunday which was also attended by Bukit Sari branch deputy chairman councillor Awangku Jinal Abidin Pengiran Jawa, youth chief councillor Semie Haji Nasip and exco members.

A trade expo ‘Lawas Uptown,’ jointly organised with MARA, Kusma and DUBS Lawas, will feature 120 hawker stalls with participants from Lawas, Limbang, Sabah and Brunei.

The educational expo, held in conjunction with the school holidays, will allow SPM and STPM school leavers and visitors to learn more about the opportunities offered by public and privare institutions of higher learning such as MRSM, UiTM, IKM and Giat Mara.

A religious talk by freelance preacher Ustaz Kazim Elias will take place at Lawas Town Square on March 21 night to coincide with the opening ceremony officiated by Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

PBB Youth chief and Minister of Works Datuk Fadillah Yusuf will officiate at the closing ceremony on the following day.

The Sabah Minister of Youth and Sports and officials and representatives from Labuan and Brunei have also been invited to attend.
