LAHAD DATU: The proposed re-delineation of electoral boundaries may produce state constituencies in Lahad Datu and Keningau that are suitable for Chinese candidates, said Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Datuk Teo Chee Kang.

Teo, who is also Minister of Special Tasks, said he and LDP deputy president Senator Datuk Chin Su Phin have met with Sabah Election Commission (EC) officials to discuss matters pertaining to the proposed re-delineation exercise recently.

Both leaders had also called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on January 8 to express their wish to have suitable constituencies for Chinese candidates to contest in after the re-delineation exercise.

Teo said this during a Chinese New Year luncheon hosted by LDP Lahad Datu division here recently.

He urged LDP members to demonstrate solidarity in preparation for the next general election and to be pragmatic in serving the people.

At the same time, Teo called on members to carry out a recruitment exercise for the party in order to gain more support from young voters aged 40 and below.

Also present at the event were Chin, LDP vice presidents Datuk Mok Kiong, Datuk Lim Ming Hoo, Lim Kai Min, secretary general Datuk Yong Wui Chung, Youth leader Tsang Hieng Yee and Women chief Datin Shim Nyat Yun.

Earlier, Teo and the party leaders also attended a dialogue with leaders and members of LDP Sri Tanjung, Apas, Balung, Merotai and Senallang divisions.

During the event, Teo said the strength of a political party did not rely on a single person, but the unity of the whole team.

Hence, he urged party members to put aside their differences and play their roles effectively to face the next general election.

Teo said the party was now back on the right track since the internal crisis which broke out two years ago, adding that there were party members currently holding government positions at all levels.
