KUCHING: The Yang Dipertua Negeri of Sarawak Cup Muaythai Tournament kicks off today (Mar 18) in Bintulu at the old Bintulu Airport site.

Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud is expected to officiate at the opening ceremony of the three-day competition.

Joint organiser Sarawak Muaythai Association (PMS) believe they have an event not to be missed.

“This year’s competition is the second edition and we worked hard to bring in formidable fighters.

“I am sure that fans, especially those in Bintulu, would realise that this is a rare occasion happening there,” a PMS official told The Borneo Post.

10 boxers from Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia will be in action on the first day.

Among the categories to be contested are the challenge trophy, international superfight, Borneo category and Bintulu Challenge Trophy.

The inaugural tournament was held at the Indoor Stadium, Kuching last year.

Among the joint organisers of this year’s event are Bintulu Development Authority and Bintulu Resident Office.
