Cops nab main suspect in road bullying case

KUCHING: Police have arrested the fourth suspect who is the main suspect in a road bullying case at Jalan Demak on Monday, and remanded him for four days to assist in investigation.

Court Registrar Aida Montong granted the remand application on the 26-year-old man from Kampung Bako until next Monday.

The fourth suspect who is the brother of the third suspect was arrested after a photofit was found to match his picture in a criminal registration album around 11am on Wednesday.

He was rounded up by police during ‘Ops Bersepadu’ at Taman Banjaran Serapi, Sg Tengah near Jalan Matang.

Earlier three other suspects, a 21-year-old from Kampung Bako Ulu, a 26-year-old from Bandar Baru Semariang, and a 27-year-old from Kampung Bako were detained after their arrest on Tuesday. They were remanded for four days.

A video of the vicious assault during the road bullying incident went viral on social media.

In the 3.30pm incident, the victim, a 46-year-old contractor, was driving with a friend along Jalan Demak before the altercation with road bullies.

The video showed the victim being repeatedly punched and kicked to the ground as well as bashed with motorcycle helmets.

The case has been classified under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt.

In an unrelated case, an army man suspected of raping his girlfriend had his seven-day remand order extended by another seven days.

The 22-year-old who is a married man had been in detention since last Tuesday to assist police investigation of the case classified under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

His girlfriend was said to be four months pregnant and the offence believed to have taken place in November last year.

The new remand order expired next Thursday.
