BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: A citizen was drowning while swimming in the river. An attempt to rescue him were unsuccessful, Antaranews reported.
The incident occurred on Saturday (21/3) night around 18:30. At that time, the victim washing clothes, while bathing swim behind the house. But not long after, the victim immediately sank.
The witness M. Said Rizky saw and tried to help the victim, but to no avail.
After performing a search with the help of Banjarmasin Water Police Unit and the Joint Rescue team around 20:20 pm the victim’s body was found not far from the scene.
Chief of Banjarmasin Water Police Unit AKP Fortunately Widodo said the victim found in river Martapura purely drowned while swimming in the river.
Related to the incident, the chief police immediately appealed to citizens when bathing or other activities along the river not to do swimming, because many deaths caused of swift river currents in the region of Banjarmasin.
