18 volleyball referees attend state-level course

MIRI: 18 referees from Miri and Bintulu successfully completed the four-day State-level Volleyball Referee Course which ended here last week.

They included nine school, college and university students.

The course, jointly organised by the Miri Volleyball Association and Curtin Volleyball Club, was held at Riam Road Secondary School (RRSS).

It was conducted by three senior referees led by Sarawak Volleyball Referee Board chairman Andrew Ting.

Andrew, who is also Miri Volleyball Association vice president, officiated at the closing of the course.

Meanwhile, Curtin Volleyball Club president Lucas Teoh thanked RRSS for their support in providing the facilities.

He praised the school for their vital role by noting that “the effort and cooperation by RRSS have also been acknowledged by every volleyball player in Miri”.

Teoh told the Borneo Post about the establishment of the Miri Volleyball Referee Board of which he is chairman. The recent setting up of the board was witnessed by Andrew (state board chairman and international referee), Chai Wei Ming (international referee candidate) and Nazarudin (Malaysia Volleyball Association referee candidate).

The Miri Volleyball Referee Board secretary is Lee Say Hou (also Miri Volleyball Association secretary) and the treasurer Wendy Ling Pei Yin (also Curtin Volleyball Club treasurer)

The Board has pledged to provide technical support and referees for volleyball tournaments in Miri and Sarawak.
