The totally damaged tailoring shop which was partitioned into two units.
KUCHING: Two tailor shop units were gutted in Kenyalang Park on Saturday night.
According to Kuching Fire Department chief Tiong Ling Hii, one unit was totally destroyed while another adjacent to it was partially affected within minutes of the fire breaking out.
No injuries were reported in the incident that occurred at the premises belonging to Penghulu Tan Tuan Yee around 9pm.
“The fire razed the two premises located on the ground floor which had been converted into one shop partitioned only by a wall in the centre,” he said.
It was learnt that the flames spread so rapidly that the shop operator was unable to salvage sewing materials.
Personnel from Kuching, Tabuan Jaya and Batu Lintang fire stations who rushed to the scene managed to prevent the flames from spreading to other shops.
The cause of the fire and estimated losses were still under investigation.
