“This pageant is all about empowering women, building futures and inspiring a generation of independent and modern women,” said MGIS state director Nickson Simbor of the inaugural beauty pageant competition held for Sarawakians.

“We want to celebrate real, outstanding women who are not afraid to be themselves and go the distance, stand for their beliefs whilst representing the epitome of elegant beauty, confidence and strong character,” said Simbor, adding that Sarawak beauties are full of potential and it is time for them to show their ‘Sarawakian’ beauty on a world stage.

The finalists were judged based on their beauty and personality by professional judges including pageant trainer Wagner John, Miss Borneo Ethnic 2014 Claryssa Henry Ogodong, Interior and Fashion designer Gilbert Francis, Mr Sabah Borneo Tourism 2014 Ricky Raca Kimwah, Mr Tourism Sarawak Ethnic 2013 Benjamin Arslan Orea, MGIS creative director Aqeem Yusuf and Simbor himself.

They will be competing for the ‘Miss Global International Sarawak’ title at the Grand Final which will be held on May 21 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK), themed ‘Unity and Culture’.

Miss Global International Malaysia 2014 Rubini Sambanthan has been given the honour to crown the winner of MGIS at the grand final. She will also be accompanied by two Sarawakian beauties, Miss International Nicole Landon and Miss World University Naomi Sim.

The top three (3) winners of MGIS will receive a crown with sash, cash prizes, sponsored prizes and a paid trip to Miss Global International Malaysia (MGIM), where they will represent Sarawak, with fully sponsored wardrobes.

Prior to that, they will also receive two months of intensive training at a beauty camp before departing for the nation al-level competition to be held in Miri this August.

“It is important for them to be well-groomed before they compete at MGIM. We need to ensure they are top-notch and ready to represent the state at the renowned competition,” Simbor added.

Miss Global International Malaysia (MGIM) is the pageant franchise holder for Miss International, the third largest beauty pageant in the world behind Miss Universe and Miss World. MGIM is also the franchise holder for minor beauty pageants including the Miss Supranational, Miss Intercontinental, Miss Globe and World Miss University.

The winner for MGIM will then be representing Malaysia at the Miss International Global 2015 to be held this November in Tokyo, Japan.

After this audition, there will be a fashion show and a national costume presentation to be held at CityONE Megamall Kuching on March 28 and April 25 respectively, to introduce these 25 beautiful ladies in their dazzling attires sponsored by Metrojaya Collections to members of the public.
