MIRI: Miri Archery Association (MAA) won three bronze medals in the first leg of the National Archery Circuit held in Keramat, Kuala Lumpur from March 17-21.

MAA president David Ting told The Borneo Post on Sunday that much of the credit for the performance was due to star athlete Connie Chai Oni Yii.

Connie won the bronze in the individual qualifying round and then anchored the team in two other events.

In the mixed team event Connie partnered Chio Chung Yin while Vanessa Voon Lip Ping and Esther Yong Yin Ze joined her for the women team compound event.

Ting added that after the first leg of the circuit Connie had now raised her national ranking four places to Number 5.

Her sterling performances, however, might have come a bit too late for this year’s SEA Games selection.

“Since the SEA Games 2015 selection list has been submitted in February, thus MAA have to target Connie for the next SEA Games,” Ting explained.

MAA sent a team of 11 archers to compete in the competition in Keramat.

The second leg is due in April.
