KUALA LUMPUR: The “30 Per Cent Club”, aimed at increasing women’s participation at the decision-making level, will be launched middle of this year.

Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun said the ministry, with the cooperation of the Performance Management Delivery Unit (Pemandu), was now finalising the list of the founding board members.

It is scheduled to be launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and the founder of the United Kingdom’s 30 Per Cent Club, Helena Morrisey, she told the Dewan Rakyat today.

To a question by Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Kulai), Azizah said the setting up of the club was hoped to get buy-in from the corporate sector to increase the percentage of women in decision-making level and directors’ boards.

She said that the placement of women in decision-making level in Hong Kong and the United Kingdom had increased since the establishment of the club there.

It also helped to increase awareness on the importance of gender diversity in decision-making level in the corporate sector, she added. -Bernama
