KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s unemployment rate in January 2015 rose marginally to 3.1 per cent from three per cent the previous month, the Statistics Department said.

In a statement on the ‘Labour Force Statistics Malaysia’, it said the year-on-year comparison, however, showed a lower unemployment rate at 3.3 cent in January 2014.

The department said the labour force participation rate declined to 67.2 per cent in January as compared with 67.9 per cent in the previous month, it said.

“This decline was due to a reduction of population aged 20 to 34 years old in the labour market,” it said.

Year-on-year, the comparison showed the labour force participation rate was lower at 67.8 per cent in January 2014, it said. — Bernama
