Two firemen injured putting out lorry fire

SRI AMAN: Two Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) personnel suffered serious injuries while putting out fire burning a lorry laden with various goods in Pantu near here about 2.40am yesterday.

A spokesman of the Sri Aman Fire and Rescue Station said the firemen – Matthew Owen Augustine and Elijah Tiyit – had been admitted to the Sri Aman Hospital and their condition was stable.

“They were initially rushed to Pantu Clinic before they were referred to Sri Aman Hospital for further treatment,” sources said, adding that the 11-tonne lorry was believed to carry Calcium Hyperchloride.

Six fire fighters in one fire engine were dispatched to the scene to put out the fire.

The lorry driver and two others in the lorry were reported unhurt.
