Smart Taekwondo Club exponents win four medals for the state

BINTULU: Five taekwondo athletes from Bintulu Smart Taekwondo Club representing the state bagged four bronze medals at the 12th Asean Taekwondo Federation Championship 2015 in Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam recently.

The five were Dayang Syamimi Sakinah Awang Daud (SMK Baru), Augustine Rudy Grocer (SMK Assyakirin), Marylyne Bungae (Bintulu Vocational College), Nurul Hidayah Abdul Karim (SMK Kidurong) and Danish Ali (SMK Baru).

They were welcomed by their head coach Pui Jak Joon and family members at Bintulu Airport on Wednesday night.

“I am satisfied with their overall performance since this was their first participation in the games and I really hope they already learned something valuable while competing in the big event.

“We will be sending 10 of our exponents to compete in a tournament in Japan next month to earn competition experience,” said Pui.

Pui added three exponents from Bintulu Smart Taekwondo Club also competed in the 19th Asian Cities Taekwondo Championship 2015 in Hong Kong recently and won a bronze medal.

The trio comprised Steffano Atom Stephen (SMK Kidurong), Joseph Ungkah (Bintulu Vocational College) and Scott Samuel Divers (SMK Bandar).
