Odd-job worker allegedly slits own throat

SIBU: An Indonesian man is alleged to have slit his throat at a jetty in Lanang Road here, Thursday.

The odd job worker, in his 30s, was working at the jetty around 5.30pm when he committed the act.

A fisherman, who saw the incident, sent him to the hospital.

He was said to have been driven to depression after learning that his wife was seven months pregnant and that she might have got pregnant by another man.

He was detained yesterday and placed under a 14-day remand after he could not produce a valid passport and working permit.

Meanwhile, a shipyard worker suffered second degree burns following an explosion while he was welding in a ship around 7.30am yesterday.

The man, in his 30s, suffered burns on his shoulder, arms, chest, and thighs and was sent to the Sibu Hospital by a foreman.
